Six months on from the Brexit vote, the UK’s future relationship with Europe seems every bit as mired in confusion as it did in the immediate, chaotic aftermath.
Only the Scottish government has a detailed plan, outlined in the Scotland’s Place in Europe document unveiled by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon last Tuesday. The following day, Richard Walker talked all matters Brexit with Michael Russell, the Scottish government minister for UK negotiations on Scotland’s Place in Europe.
In a wide-ranging interview, the man charged with negotiating the best deal for Scotland in Europe, in a constantly changing landscape covers a lot of ground. As well as trying to decipher the UK government’s response to the document, he analyses the reaction of the Scottish opposition parties, explains the challenges ahead and discusses the possibility of a second referendum on Scottish independence.
